In product design, I love nothing more than being able to conquer two goals with one feature. I just did this the other day and feel very proud of myself. Almost smug. The feature was targeted towards customers, but I saw how it could be twisted, just slightly and it would become the greatest feature ever, for partners and agencies!
Whenever you design something, you should always be on the lookout for ways to enhance value through solving unrelated problems. I understand that some objects should be focused and solve one problem really well. However, when you have limited resources in a software company, you need to make the best use of every mythical man month from engineering.
As a design principle, this is one of my favorites. Try to kill two birds with one stone.
