VOIP, Oh Boyp!

By | November 11, 2004

I finally got the Vonage package and hooked it up last night. It was surprisingly easy to do. Its a router, but I put it behind my Sonicwall firewall and it worked perfectly. I’m shocked actually. The sound is fine. Might be a slight humming noise, but otherwise, its perfectly acceptable. Danny said there was an echo echo echo, but I think he is under stress and might be hallucinating.

The BAD news is that Tivo can not call out over the VOIP. I do not know why, but it can’t. This really sucks. It needs to connect once a month to get programming info and stuff. So what am I going to do?

Let’s do the math for monthly charges:
Comcast Cable modem: $70
Vonage VOIP: $15 for 500 min.
SBC Cheap Line (for Tivo): $6

Or

SBC/Yahoo DSL: $75
Vonage VOIP: $15 for 500 min.
SBC Cheap Line (for Tivo): $6

Or

SBC/Yahoo DSL: $75
SBC Normal Phone: $??

Ugh, decisions decisions! So I guess the main thing I need to do is to ask Katie how much we were spending each month on phone.
