GeoCaching Eagle Falls – Lake Tahoe

Last week we went up to Lake Tahoe and had a nice time.  It wasn’t as story laden as the last time, but it was pretty good.  The highlight for me was doing some geocaching near Eagle Falls on the south end of Lake Tahoe.  Check out this picture of Jared climbing up the side of the mountain.

How could a boy afraid of going a little fast on the jet-ski be so fearless on so precarious a cliff?  In climbing, Jared is fearless.

It took us a little while, but we found the cache.  It was a big ammo box with lots of stuff in it.  We took a neat Xmas tree ornament and left my Kokopelli keychain.  I’ve had that key chain for years, so it seemed like a good place to leave it.

It changed the whole nature of the little trip up the side of the mountain.  Rather than a “hike”, which I know my wife loves, but I hate; it was a mission.  A mission with a clear goal:  Find the cache!  I think geocaching will increase in popularity as smart phones with GPS become more ubiquitous.  It makes walking in the woods tolerable.

The boys got horrible sun burns and we didn’t go rafting, or up the heavenly gondola or horseback riding, but the geocaching trip saved the day.  See if you can find it.
