Samsung Galaxy S3 with Jelly Bean

Verizon just upgraded my phone to Android Jelly Bean 4.1.1.  It has some minor improvements, but generally speaking it isn’t much of a change.  The icons look different and the email clients look newer.  There is more color in the built-in apps like Calendar and Email.  They have a new widget I am using for quick dial.

Overall, my impression is “Meh”.  But what was I expecting?  If they broke my phone it would suck, so it’s important I suppose, to reduce scope and make sure everything works perfectly.

The one area where I think they could improve the most is contact management.  Specifically, the fact that I have 12 versions of the same contact.  I have told my phone MANY times that I don’t want to see certain contacts, yet there they are.  Apparently, they came from LinkedIn.  LinkedIn has a serious issue who “who-the-heck-is-this-ism”.  I like that I can join contacts together but I find that I am telling my phone over and over again to join the same people.  Additionally, my corporate email doesn’t have people joined automatically.

Contact Axiom:  If the person has the same email address, they are the same person.  Join them!

I understand this might not be true 100% of the time.  I will separate them in that case.  Don’t make me join everyone that needs joining.  Let me UNJOIN mistakes.  I wish the phone just tried harder to be sensible.

I find myself saying that alot.  I wish more systems tried a little harder to be sensible.
