I came across the relatively new Microsoft Ajax for asp.net and decided it had been a long time since I looked at asp.net. I sat through the video. In some ways, it’s awesome. It is so full-features, and so integrated into the IDE (Visual Studio). VS is really an awesome program. On the other hand, it was overwhelming and I don’t think I could deal with it. It was so big and complex. I was overwhelmed.
If I was going to get all focused on ONE program to build a web app and have to learn a whole new way of thinking about it, I would go for Flex, not asp.net. If I wanted a tool to obscure all the details of the programming, I would try Ruby on Rails. I just don’t see the benefit of asp.net or their ajax library.
Maybe this is a trend. I definetely am down on Microsoft technologies. Bearish indeed.
Whatya think?
