Making a decision in a bad headspace is a bad idea.
- Frustrated
- Anxious
- Guilty
- Sad
- Angry
- Frantic / Hurried
- Fearful
- Distracted
- Passionate
- Hungry
- Ecstatic
These emotions make your brain run hot. They take away valuable CPU power in decision-making. You want to be calm and collected when you make decisions.
Cool heads make good decisions.
How often have you tried to solve a problem while feeling one of those emotions? Was it a good idea? Usually not. I am not advocating being like Mr. Spock, devoid of emotion. Far from it, I feel these emotions all the time. What I am suggesting is the avoidance of making a decisions while in that state.
A great example is an email written while you are angry. Write it, write every word, but for God’s sake, never send it! It’s a terrible idea to send that. Wait until the next day and read it again. You will see how unfortunate it would have been to send.
