I just upgraded to iOS 27 beta. The keyboard has never been good but look at this thing.
Spacebar
Let’s start with the obvious. What is going on with the spacebar? Who is it so tiny? The other buttons are not nearly as important. I literally hit the buttons to the left and right every single time I type something. It’s just idiotic design. The spacebar should be wider than all of the others. Why do I even need two buttons to get to the numbers. One is completely sufficient. This bottom bar is terrible.
Settings
The iPad keyboard has virtually no settings. You can’t change the font, the sizes, the margins, nothing. I understand Apple has their heads up their asses with their “We know design and you (the user) don’t know shit” attitude. But give me a break. I can’t type on this monstrosity.
Swiping
I like swiping. I use it on my iPhone all of the time. Why do they make it work their but not on the iPad? It’s an easy way to type. It sucks.
Voice typing
It’s slow and doesn’t work. They are clearly trying to use Siri to do something, but I can just not get it to work reliably. I don’t really even want to use voice typing, but the keyboard sucks so much I have no choice.
Gifs
I love to send gif messages to people. The icon at the bottom right lets me type emoji, but no gifs. This is lame. My memes are suffering!
I think the iPad is a great device, but this keyboard is pure trash. Sorry.
