Office 2010 Activation

Hi, My name is Glen and I am addicted to beta software.

My latest fix comes from Office 2010.  Even before the official beta program, a version of it was leaked to the web.  Waht does Microsoft expect me to do?  Ignore the leaked version!?  Are they insane.  Of course, I found it and installed it.  I was COMPELLED to install it.

So far, it has been pretty good.  I am impressed.  Then the other day, I got a warning.  Here is what it looks like today:

activation

Ok, several problems.  First the obvious.  Are you serious??  You are going to make me uninstall Office 2010 and revert back to *shudder* released software Office 2007?  Man, I would rather find some ridiculously bad beta of open source office or something.  How am I going to get my fix?  Please Microsoft, stop being babies and just let us use whatever beta crap you have.  I am going to buy 6 licenses of Windows 7 and at least 2 licenses of Office 2010 when it comes out.  What the hell do you want from me?  All I ask is that you let me use the betas for as much as I want.

Second problem.  There is actually no way to activate this software, even if I wanted to.  I searched.  There is no “Activate Now” button.

Third problem.  The link “Learn More about Activation” is broken.  It doesn’t even go anywhere.

Come on Microsoft.  Give a poor addict a little love.

    So you installed software you don’t have the legal right to use and now you’re POed that you can’t keep using it? Seriously, time for a reality check.

    If you love MS betas so much, there’s a solution. It’s called an MSDN subscription. Buy one.

    My point is that making me downgrade doesn’t help Microsoft at all. In fact, it hurts them if I start using open source betas instead.

  3. And how does it help Microsoft when you pirate their software?

  4. In fact, I recommend that you do dump all of your MS applications and switch entirely to open source software. That’ll show ’em.

    I don’t pirate their software. I pirate their BETA software. Big difference. I am responsible for giving hundreds of thousands of dollars to Microsoft over the years. People who want to use beta software are a valuable resource to a company.

  6. Funny,

    My activation message popped up today saying 4 days left so I changed the date ahead 5 days to see what happens and it now simple says it needs activation but still lets me use all the features. Set it ahead 1 year and still says needs activation but all functionality. Also seems to only appear for me under outlook.

    You can do as follows:
    First you have to stop the service : Office Software Protection
    Then run x:WindowsSystem32OSPPRUN.exe (x can be your C: or other driveletter you have installed windows on)
    You will have a prompt.
    Enter these command followed by an enter like shown below, go to next step
    >Initialize (enter)
    >Open (enter)
    >GetInstalledSkuIds (enter)
    0. 128a057a-7e95-4063-b296-c54c5f3d3f3a (deze is het ID van Office 2010)
    1. 26adec89-edf3-4adc-a3fc-c865f1a9f71f
    OK.
    > GetInstalledAppIds 128a057a-7e95-4063-b296-c54c5f3d3f3a (enter)
    0. 59a52881-a989-479d-af46-f275c6370663
    OK.
    (You will get something that looks like this)
    > GetLicensingStatus 59a52881-a989-479d-af46-f275c6370663 128a057a-7e95-4063-b296-c54c5f3d3f3a (enter)
    SkuId = 128a057a-7e95-4063-b296-c54c5f3d3f3a
    eStatus = SL_LICENSING_STATUS_IN_GRACE_PERIOD
    dwGraceTime = 1D 23:37
    dwTotalGraceDays = 30 days
    hrReason = 4004F00C
    qwExpiration = 2010/10/31
    OK.
    (What you are now going to do is set AppID and SkuID for Office 2010 to enable again 30 days before activation. That gives you another 30 days to test. Mostly the IDs are the same, if not please copy and use yours
    > Rearm 59a52881-a989-479d-af46-f275c6370663 128a057a-7e95-4063-b296-c54c5f3d3f3a 1 (enter)
    OK.
    >close (enter)
    >Initialize (enter)
    >open (enter)
    You can enter the command below to check out how many days you have left (See dwGraceTime):
    > GetLicensingStatus 59a52881-a989-479d-af46-f275c6370663 128a057a-7e95-4063-b296-c54c5f3d3f3a (enter)
    SkuId = 128a057a-7e95-4063-b296-c54c5f3d3f3a
    eStatus = SL_LICENSING_STATUS_IN_GRACE_PERIOD
    dwGraceTime = 29D 23:37
    dwTotalGraceDays = 30 days
    hrReason = 4004F00C
    qwExpiration = 2010/10/31
    >quit (enter)
    You are able to use it again for 30 days. Have a lot of fun with testing Microsoft Office 2010…

  12. Well it did it… It quit working. Now back to the drawing board I guess. I’m going to give this guys regersty edit trick a try and see.

    I really like what I have seen in Office 2010.

    move “%PROGRAMFILES%Common Filesmicrosoft sharedOFFICE14Office Setup Controllersetup.exe” “%PROGRAMFILES%Common Filesmicrosoft sharedOFFICE14Office Setup Controllersetup.exe.bak”

  16. To: PAPILA
    It’s worked! Cool! Brilliant Thank.
    I didn’t use BAT file but same method.
    – Open “Task manager” > “Services” > Stop service “Office Software Protection Platform”
    – Change PROGRAM FILESCommon Filesmicrosoft sharedOfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatformOSPPC.dll >>> “OSPPC.dll.bak”
    – Change PROGRAM FILESCommon Filesmicrosoft sharedOFFICE14Office Setup Controllersetup.exe >>> “setup.exe.bak”
    – Open “regedit”
    – Delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionInstallerUserDataS-1-5-18ComponentsED417E2A8BA189D4C8741500D3BAD4A3
    – Delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionInstallerUserDataS-1-5-18Components245B6465E1D4AE2438C268D3D53A86AB
    – If it didn’t match with HKEY you’re just looking for “PROGRAM FILESCommon Filesmicrosoft sharedOfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatformOSPPC.dll” and “PROGRAM FILESCommon Filesmicrosoft sharedOFFICE14Office Setup Controllersetup.exe”
