Personality Test 2019

I am recruiting new product designers these days and one candidate put her personality tests on her About page. I saw the test and (on a whim) decided to fill out the form. It just takes 5 minutes or so. Here are my results:

The Architect INTJ, -A/-T

My 2019 Results

The text is generally accurate. Some highlights

  • Strengths
    • Quick, Imaginative and Strategic Mind
    • High Self-Confidence
    • Independent and Decisive
    • Hard-working and determined
    • Open-minded
    • Jacks-of-all-Trades
  • Weaknesses
    • Arrogant
    • Judgmental
    • Overlay Analytical
    • Loathe highly structured environments
    • Clueless in Romance
    • Few Friends

Yup, that seems about right.

My son Ethan thinks that these sorts of tests are hippie mumbo jumbo pseudo science and should be mocked. He might be right, but I still like them. They help make sense out of something truly complicated…our personalities.

What do you think? Useful or waste of time?

I don’t have the option to upload an image of my results, so here is the text

    Personality type: “The Logician” (INTP-A)
    Individual traits: Introverted – 56%, Intuitive – 73%, Thinking – 69%, Prospecting – 56%, Assertive – 89%
    Role: Analyst
    Strategy: Confident Individualism

In general I’m not a fan of these things for two main reasons. The main one is that people can’t be trusted to answer these questions about themselves. The second is that if you have strong tendencies on both side of the same issue, it will net a neutral rating. For example, if I am very outgoing in social situations, but very introverted in business situations, it would net that I’m neither, but isn’t very accurate. All that being said, the results of this test are what I would have most expected for myself.

All the personality types are positive. If only the world was limited to people who meet these description.

I think they are useful primarily in better articulating complex ideas about our “selfs” to ourselves and others. They may not be best for self discovery, which only comes through a lifetime of experiences. Also I believe the enneagram cuts deeper and articulates more clearly than the Meyers briggs. It better handles the dynamic nature of people and how we change in different situations. https://www.enneagraminstitute.com
