Some Beta Software

I finally got invited to the Trillian Astra alpha.  I have been waiting for a long time for this.  It’s a beautiful looking application and actually improves upon the reliable Trillian 3.1 that I have been using for years.  It adds GTalk support and a slick new interface using tons of alpha transparency.  Apparently, it works very well on the iPhone.  I am so sick of non-interoperable IM clients.  I want one, completely interchangeable IM protocol.  I want to just give out my email address not give me GTalk, Yahoo, MSN, and AIM accounts.  Its insane at this point.

I would love to see a handheld version of Trillian Astra.  Seriously, I would be interested in a Text Message ONLY device.  Something with a keyboard, but no camera, and no phone.  Sort of like a super-beeper.  Truthfully, I enjoy IM’ing with someone more than I like talking to them.  Who will be the first to deliver this break-through device?  Apple?  The iTalk?  I will buy one.

Another piece of software entering beta is WordPress 2.3. I looked through the new features.  Maybe its the new jQuery or maybe it’s the fact that it is beta software and I can’t help myself, but I just have to install it.  I am going to try and resist, but its not going to release for 20 days.  I don’t know if I can stand it.  Maybe I should get a new host and install the beta there.  Lunarpages has been down so many times, it’s sickening.  Makes me mad.  How could they be down so much?  How is it possible?

Seriously though, I have really come to rely on WordPress.  It’s a great program.  I love it.  I have used Blogger and Typepad and have to say, WordPress is designed very well.

Whatya think?
