Train Wrecks

Sometimes you just can not look away, no matter how ridiculous it is.  I just lost 5 minutes of my life to this little kid and her family.  Watch and kill a few brain cells.

There are an awful lot of people out there who are just like this.  I am no saint, but man, this is over the top.  I can’t look away!

How can one design something like this?  Designing a train wreck is just like designing anything else.  Real World San Francisco and Puck launched a reality TV explosion.  Editing and writing for that sort of thing is a craft like any other.  I wonder if I could design a train wreck.

    If that family is really that happy all the time, and those kids grow up to be that happy all the time, than perhaps they have the right idea.

    The goal of progress is not about technology or education (those are tools), it is about maximizing long-term happiness and reducing long-term suffering. Politicians focus on the economy, but no one comes out as says “my policies will make you happier”. I looked up a list of happiest countries, but they all seem to be calculated with things like economic growth and life expediency. This one seems ok, as you can decide what you think is important. http://www.oecdbetterlifeindex.org/

    Maybe working all day in front of a computer is a train wreck.
