Everyday is Special, Almost

This column, Beta Net Review, tries to publish every day and, at the same time, only give you news that’s interesting. So in the true spirit of net honesty I have to say… Not much happened yesterday.

Xing Technologies released a version 2.0 of its streaming audio/video plugin for Netscape. I have not had a chance to use it yet, but I will today and let you know if it’s worth getting. So far I have only seen one example of the Macromedia streaming audio product, Shockwave.

Shockwave promises to be a major player in Internet design work. Previously Shockwave had to be downloaded in large chunks while you sat and waited for the multimedia to begin. Now, with streaming audio, you can download the multimedia while you listen to the stream. It may not be the prettiest technology imaginable, but it works.
