We are in the long tail at work. The product is getting close to releasable. The little details start kicking in and take an enormous amount of time and attention. I think the product will be well received, but like most products, the devil is in the details. The heat at work has definitely been…
Last night I was struggling with a problem that refused to budge. I was very confident in the beginning. Of course, Internet Explorer just refused to cooperate and Firefox was just fine. The problem kept going to a for while as a lost confidence. Right before I was about to quit, I sat very still…
I don’t know exactly why, but I made an Amazon.com Wishlist. I was writing my book and got to a stopping point and wanted to see what Amazon.com did for some UI thing. And I just said, “Well, I am here. Why not? Note: The content of this site is always objective and free. I…
My bosses recently purchased an Ikea couch. I won’t go into all the details, but here is the salient point: The directions did not have a single word. All pictures. I liked it very much. It was international. I found the directions clear and concise. Good job. Interesting, there is an ikeaFans.com website. It says…
Ethan’s teacher, Mr. Fidner has this posted on the classroom wall. He also has pictures of inspirational people like John Lennon and Ghandi. I like Mr. Fidner. I consider myself a crazy one. Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond…
I was listening to NPR this morning to an interview with Robert Reich. Apparently, Rob Reich uses blogspot for his blog. He was very interesting on the interview. He was talking about how the world has changed in the last 30 years. I didn’t get to the end of the interview, so I think I…
jQuery just recently released their 1.2 version. This spurred me to get some of my mini-projects done and clean up my cookbook area. I also FINALLY figured out how to Gzip my JavaScript files. There might be an easier way, but here is how I did it. Rename the JavaScript files from .js to .php. …
I have so many open projects right now. It makes it impossible to finish anything. I think it’s important to start a job and finish it, no matter how small the project is, just to keep your head in the game. I tried that tonight. I completely overhauled and cleaned up my jQuery cookbook area. …
Do not ask for whom the Jets lose. They lose for me. I know it’s just the first game, and they did play the team favored to win the Superbowl, but I was really hoping they would win. The offense and the secondary did ok. But the pass-rush and run-stop was non-existant. Chad Pennington also…
I still can’t stop coughing! I can’t concentrate like this. Make it stop! Make it stop! I played tennis this weekend. I thought, “Maybe I could exercise and that will help”. It didn’t help. I had to quit after half a set. Ugh!
I still feel terrible. Coughing. Can’t breathe. It’s amazing how a little thing like breathing can sap your creative energy. This cough has been nagging me for over a week. I am afraid that I won’t be able to play tennis on Sunday. Katie is starting to cough more now too. I bought this thing…
Brad Neuberg posted this awesome vision statement on his blog. Well, it’s not really a vision statement, but it felt like it so I will call it that. It made me sit and think about the big questions that I have in my mind. I wrote a list of the things that I am working…
I find it fascinating how people react to responsibility and ideas. Some people, like myself, find it easier to avoid responsibility. Although, when I take on responsibility for something and achieve it, I feel a great sense of accomplishment. But it isn’t “easy” for me. I struggle to do the right thing. My wife, on…
Logos are so tough. Every group needs a logo to hang its hat on. You need it for t-shirts and mugs and business cards and letter head. There are hundreds of companies out there, as well as freelance designers who will make a logo pretty inexpensively. However, only some logos get the status of “awesome”. …
