I blogged about this 4 years ago, but I actually used the quote today in a conversation. Portion of a poem by Robert Burns, To a Louse. Robert Burns has written some good stuff.
O, wad some Power the giftie gie us
To see oursels as others see us!
It wad frae monie a blunder free us
An’ foolish notion:
What airs in dress an’ gait wad lea’e us,
And ev’n Devotion!
English translation:
O would some Power the gift to give us
To see ourselves as others see us!
It would from many a blunder free us,
And foolish notion:
What airs in dress and gait would leave us,
And even devotion!
I often am paranois, self-conscious about what other people think. This would be a gift indeed. Maybe I could just ask someone to tell me how they see me? Would they be honest? Could they be if they wanted to?
Whatya think?
