Eat Club Review

What is Eat Club?
For those of you who don’t know, Eat Club is a service where they gather lunch dishes from many local restaurants and package it up for delivery. The model is interesting since they don’t just pick it up and deliver.

The Good
They have a menu system with nice photographs.  One thing I appreciate is that they take “real” pictures of the food , not just food porn. For example:

Photoshopped Food Porn
Actual Food

The food always arrives exactly at noon and you get an email notification. It doesn’t look awesome, but the realistic pictures are close.

The Bad
One particular dish I received last week, Sashimi Chirashi Bowl, was inedible. The rice was rock hard and the fish was not tender at all. I gave it one star. The next day I received an email from a customer service person. It was a nice, polite, email, but this line confused me:

I’ve placed promotional credits in your EAT Club account that you can use on a secondary meal in the future.

What confuses me is that this means I can order 2 meals in one day. But to me, that is an invitation to waste food. I don’t understand why I would want to order two meals and throw one away. I asked them about it and they just repeated that it’s there.

Also, Eat Club does not allow any modifications. So I ca’t say “No Mayo” or “Not Spicy”. This is due to their model of pre-packaging the meals.

The Ugly
The food has just been mediocre. Not one dish made me smile. It makes me question whether it’s worth it or not. On the one hand, it saves me $10-$15 dollars and also makes it simple to get the food. On the other hand, walking to Mollie Stone’s (2 blocks) allows me to get food that makes me happy.

Feeding myself, since I lost 40lbs last year, has become more important to me. I don’t want to waste any eating opportunities by consuming mediocre food. I only eat 1.3 meals per day. I want to maximize the yum in that budget.

Summary
I think I am going to stop ordering Eat Club. It’s a nice benefit, and saves me time and money. But eating is too important to me and it’s just making me unhappy.

Sorry Eat Club. I tried to be objective about this review. It may be great for others, but it’s just not for me.
