I am a fan of Black Mirror on Netflix. It is an anthology series focusing on technology and culture in the near future. Most of the time the future is sad, terrifying, or horrible in one dystopian way or another. Sounds good, right?
Season 7 just dropped 6 episodes, which feels short, but the quality level is very high. All of the episodes are thought provoking. I spent time after each episode in a rich contemplative state.
I have been a believer that we live in a simulation. That the meaning of life is mainly to feel anxiety, terror, hope, joy, frustration, love, hate, hunger, pain, and every other emotion on the spectrum. The reason we are here is because infinity is boring. With no threat of death and the power to be god, we become incredibly bored. Life is a way to escape timeless omnipotence. Life is short and difficult, which is exactly the point.
They really explore these ideas in Black Mirror. Sometimes they focus on the horribleness of it all, and other times they give us hope for a better future. we are living through an incredibly stressful period right now. Uncertainty is a peak levels. These ideas are more relevant than ever.
No one knows what is going to happen, but I love the creative thinking Black Mirror provides. Each episode takes a different angle and tells a compelling story. Each story is uniquely told with great acting and writing. I really enjoy it.
The design of the sets, the story, and even the series is brilliant. There is nothing else like it. No big point to this post other than journaling my enjoyment of this well crafted series. Enjoy!
